Glassware (including coverslips, slides) cleaning technology

Note: All cleaning work must take strict safety precautions!

Glassware cleaning method

(1) First prepare the cleaning agent (also called lotion): 200mg potassium dichromate, 1000ml water, 1000ml concentrated sulfuric acid (for industrial use)

First, dissolve potassium dichromate in water, and then add concentrated sulfuric acid to sodium dichromate aqueous solution to prevent sulfuric acid from splashing out. When ready, place it in a glass container with a glass stopper to prevent air oxidation. This lotion can be reused until it turns blue black.

(2) Put the glassware to be cleaned into soapy water and boil it for 0.5 hour.
(3) Then rinse with clean water and put it into the oven for drying (or natural drying).
(4) After drying, immerse in the washing solution for about 10 minutes.
(5) Rinse with tap water and dry.
(6) Store in a dustproof place for future use.
2. Cleaning method for new coverslips and new slides

Cleaning of commercial cover glass and slide is relatively simple. They can be soaked in 2% hydrochloric acid alcohol (100 parts of 95% alcohol, add 2 parts of concentrated hydrochloric acid) for several hours, and then washed with tap water to dry the water drops. Store in% alcohol for future use.

3. Cleaning methods for obsolete coverslips and slides

(1) Boil the section specimens that do not need to be put in soapy water for 5-10 minutes.
(2) Wash the remaining gum paste with hot water.
(3) After washing with clean water, let the water drop out.
(4) Immerse in the washing solution for about 30 minutes.
(5) Rinse with clean water and distilled water, and let the water drop out.
(6) Soak in 95% alcohol for preservation.

During use, take the cover glass and slide out of the alcohol, and wipe both sides of the slide with clean gauze. Wipe the cover glass carefully and evenly to avoid cracking.
